Assyrian Australian vocalist, composer and multi-instrumentalist Lillian Albazi has emerged as one of Australia's most versatile and compelling contemporary artists, forging a career that moves fearlessly between jazz, experimental music, alternative and noise. Albazi first gained national attention after being invited to perform at the 2016 Melbourne International Jazz Festival, under the artistic curation of Michael Tortoni and Melanie Pose, while still a student. This was her first live show and the beginning of her jazz career.

Since then, she has established herself as a distinctive voice within Australia's contemporary music and jazz landscape headlining at venues and festivals including the Melbourne Recital Centre, MONA, Devonport Jazz Festival, Jazz Music Institute, Brisbane International Jazz Festival, JazzLab, The Citadel, Boroondara Arts alongside collaborators Tony Gould AM, James Sherlock, Holly Moore (Namboku Records/Australian Art Orchestra), Ben Hanlon (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra), Michael Story (Christchurch Symphony Orchestra), Thierry Fossemalle, Dave Sanders, James Sandon (Queensland Conservatorium), Fran Swinn (Australian Art Orchestra), Oscar Neyland, Tom Allen-Graham and Luke Andresen.

Her acclaimed 2021 debut album "After-Image" further cemented her reputation as not only as a highly esteemed vocalist but a musician capable of balancing technical sophistication with expression, depth and a capacity for creative and engaging arrangements.

Beyond jazz, Albazi's work consistently pushes genre boundaries. She fronts Melbourne alternative outfit Great ~ Falls, a project blending indie, noise textures and experimental songwriting, earning praise from Australian radio and independent press for its intensity and wide ranging sonic palette. Simultaneously, she expanded her international profile through her collaboration with US-based noise trio Great Falls, touring to the UK, recording and featuring on their cult celebrated release "Objects Without Pain". Lillian's contributions to this record and tour received widespread acclaim across the world, including recognition from publications such as Stereogum and Brooklyn Vegan.

Albazi's experimental sound world further extends into avant-garde and chamber-inspired performance through Bright Phantoms, her collaborative work with 2025 APRA Performance of the Year: Jazz/Improvised Music winning double bassist Oscar Neyland. Exploring extended vocal techniques, altered tunings and modern classical influences, the project highlights Albazi's ongoing fascination and passion for improvisation, texture and the intersection of jazz and contemporary art music.
